Ride the Lights



Blackpool – Cycle The Lights
- When? 27 August, 19.00-22.00

What? You’ve got the best part of two months to see Blackpool’s famous Illuminations by car, tram or on foot. But there’s just one night each year when you can see the lights on two wheels. So pack the bikes, light them up, and hit the prom.
Illuminations Switch-On



The free show will take place on Friday 30 August on the Tower Festival Headland

It takes just one big switch to fill a town with light and you can be there for the big event. This year’s headliners are Busted. More acts are set to be announced soon, and every year there’s a big, big name to pull the lever and launch the Illuminations.
It’s free to be part of it but entry is by wristband only and the wristbands are issued by public ballot. To be in with a chance of winning up to four wristbands, enter the switch-on ballot here.

Blackpool Illuminations
- When? Friday 30 August – Sunday 3 November, from sunset (approx.)
- Where? Promenade – Starr Gate to Redbank Road
- How much? FREE
For generations, families have taken their children along the lights. And with numbers continuing to grow, it’s a tradition that’s very much alive and well. But if you’ve only seen the lights from a car window, you really haven’t seen them at all, so…
- Catch a tram – you’ll avoid the traffic jams and get a spectacular view
- Catch a heritage tram – some are open-topped. Some are rocket ships, steam trains or boats! The circular tours (which go right past Tiffany’s Hotel doors) start from the tram terminus at Sandcastle Waterpark
- Go on foot – Head north to the huge tableaux at Bispham. Or head south from our Blackpool hotel and take time to explore the Tower Headland and town centre to get the most from Lightpool (see below).
World Fireworks Championships 2019
- When? Every Friday in September, 20.30 (approx.)
- Where? Promenade (fireworks are launched from North Pier)
- How much? FREE
Every September, Blackpool’s promenade explodes into light, sound and fury with the World Fireworks Championships. Over the 4 weeks, three international teams compete for the grand prize, with the winner being announced on the final night of the championships, hosted by a UK team.
The fireworks are launched from North Pier, but you’ll get a great view from most places along the promenade. If you’re staying in Blackpool with us for the weekend (a wise move as you’ll avoid the traffic) it’s just a few minutes’ walk to North Pier for the full effect, or avoid the crowds and take a 10 minute stroll north to Gynn Square.
Faulty Towers – The Dining Experience

Lightpool

Lightpool is different every year, but what connects the events throughout the week is ‘illumination’. Over the past few years we’ve had 3D projections on the front of the Tower, illuminated dancers and drummers, pyrotechnic displays and more.
